Pe când Mircea avea vreo 9 luni, am fost cu el la un atelier senzorial organizat la Mom o’Clock, unde a descoperit pentru prima oară în viața lui… orezul. Cel mai tare îl amuza când un băiețel mai mare decât el, de vreun an și jumătate, îi turna orez în cap dintr-un pahar de plastic. Râdeau amândoi de parcă erau la un show de stand-up, nu la un atelier senzorial pentru bebeluși.
Dar nu despre câte boabe de orez a trebuit să îi scot eu acasă din fund voiam să vă vorbesc acuma. La acest atelier senzorial a venit și o mamă cu o bebelușă de vreo 6 luni și un pic. Pe care mămica a așezat-o, la îndemnul trainerei noastre, fix într-o caserolă mare plină cu orez, din mijlocul camerei. O dată s-a înseninat, a început să zâmbească din tot sufletul, s-a luminat la chip și au urmat vreo 30 de minute în care cred cu tărie că a fost cel mai vesel bebeluș din această galaxie. Chicotea, râdea, lingea niște orez, dădea din mânuțe, și le înfunda curioasă în boabele din jur, le ridica, le lăsa să cadă, le mirosea, râdea din nou. După jumătate de oră în care a înotat prin orezul acela, a căzut frântă și a adormit la mama ei în marsupiu. Avusese o dimineață gro-za-vă.
Cu gândul la ea, am făcut astăzi pentru voi acești ”Biscuiți” de orez – o tavă senzorială pe care bebelușii mici, de 6-12 luni, o să o adore și o să o exploreze cu încântare, iar toddlerii de-o seamă cu Mircea o să se bucure și ei de textura orezului, de zgomotul pe care acesta îl face pe tavă sau cratiță, de formele de biscuiți și bineînțeles de haosul pe care o să îl facă pe podea. Bebelușii o să adore să experimenteze cu orezul, să îl simtă pe piele, să îi analizeze textura, să asculte zgomotele pe care boabele le fac atunci când cad, să ridice formele de biscuiți și să vadă ce se întâmplă cu orezul din ele – tava aceasta senzorială este super-versatilă!
DISCLAIMER: Nu mă înjurați, dar este genul de jucărie după care trebuie să faceți curățenie, așa că vă sfătuiesc să vă jucați cu ea pe balcon, pe terasă sau în bucătărie, cu ușile spre restul casei închise, ca să nu o ia copilul la goană peste tot cu orezul pe tălpi. Stați liniștiți, se strânge ușor cu aspiratorul după ce ați terminat cu explorarea și chiar merită tot haosul, așa că dacă vă hotărâți să o faceți, atunci încercați să vă relaxați și să vă spuneți mereu în gând: ”E doar orez. Se ia cu aspiratorul. Hai să ne jucăm fără să mă tot gândesc la curățenia de după!”

1. O tavă sau cratiță (eu am folosit o cratiță cu fundul detașabil, pentru că știam că Mircea o va înnebuni până îi va desprinde și fundul, și voiam să prelugesc joaca cât mai mult).
2. Câteva forme de biscuiți (de preferat din silicon, mai ales la bebeluşii mai mici).
3. Nişte orez şi o linguriță.
Cum se construiesc ”Biscuiții” de orez:
1. Puneți formele de biscuiți în tavă / cratiță şi, cu lingurița, umpleți-le cu orez.
2. Super! Iată tava voastră senzorială cu „biscuiți” din orez. Acum chemați bebeluşul sau toddlerul la joacă şi îndemnați-l să exploreze!
☑️ Bebeluşii mai mari şi toddlerii o să se distreze maxim cu orezul, fără prea multe explicații. Dacă aveți bebeluşi mai mici, ajutați-i, puneți-le orez în palme, vorbiți-le despre textura lui, loviți formele de biscuiți de tavă sau cratiță, etc. Şi da, lăsați-i să experimenteze şi singuri.
☑️ Twist pentru bebelușii de 6-8 luni: puteți umple întreaga cratiță cu orez și apoi să ascundeți mai multe jucării colorate sub un strat generos de boabe de orez. Îndemnați apoi bebelușul să-și scufunde mâinile în orez ca să caute jucăriile pe dedesubt.
☑️ Cel mai important: nu vă stresați cu dezordinea şi curățenia! Da, o să se facă haos, o să vi se lipească orezul de tălpi, dar tălpile se spală, iar de pe gresie puteți să strângeți totul rapid cu aspiratorul după ce terminați.
❗ Ca de fiecare dată, insist să nu lăsați bebelușul sau copilul singur la joacă, să îl supravegheați în permanență și să îl ghidați atunci când nu reușește și începe să se frustreze. Nu folosiți, pentru această activitate, forme de biscuiți sau jucării foarte mici pe care ar putea să le bage în gură și să le înghită.

К ключевому свидетелю обвинения по так называемому уголовному делу «Лайф-из-Гуд» – «Гермес» – «Бест Вей» и главному обвинителю Романа Василенко возникли вопросы у следствия
По данным от источников в правоохранительных органах, Евгению Набойченко следствие готовится предъявить или даже уже предъявило обвинение – пока только в клевете, а не в мошенничестве.
Напомним, Набойченко – главный свидетель обвинения по так называемому делу «Лайф-из-Гуд» – «Гермес» – «Бест Вей», которое рассматривается сейчас судьей Екатериной Богдановой в Приморском районном суде Санкт-Петербурга. И яростный (хотя и обычно нетрезвый) обвинитель основателя маркетинговой компании «Лайф-из-Гуд» и кооператива «Бест Вей» Романа Василенко. Это бывший один из IT-менеджеров компании «Лайф-из-Гуд», одновременно работавший администратором российской части платежной системы иностранной инвесткомпании «Гермес» по договору с этой компанией, менеджмент и офис которой находятся в Австрии.
Делу дан ход
Именно из-за его обвиняющих Василенко роликов в YouTube – которые Набойченко, протрезвев, стирал, по заявлению Романа Василенко было возбуждено уголовное дело о клевете, которое долго не двигалось с мертвой точки, но в последние месяцы активное расследование началось. Это означает, что тучи над Набойченко сгущаются и не далек тот день, когда именно он станет фигурантом уголовного дела о мошенничестве и краже денег клиентов компании «Гермес».
Дело в том, что проблемы с выводом денег клиентов «Гермеса» совпали с выполненной им по договоренности с УБЭПиПК ГУ МВД России по Санкт-Петербургу и Ленинградской области, с которым он тогда сотрудничал, блокировкой платежной системы компании «Гермес», после которой расчеты стали невозможны. В исчезновении активов из личных кабинетов клиента он обвинил Василенко – однако именно Набойченко длительное время имел доступ к личным кабинетам в платежной системе. Еще до всяких событий поступали жалобы клиентов о таинственном исчезновении части активов: наши источники делятся информацией о хищении активов с кошельков клиентов «Гермеса», к которым Евгений Набойченко имел доступ.
Некоторые предполагают, что именно он украл деньги и поделил их с сотрудниками полиции, которые его курировали. О событиях в «Гермесе» высказался бывший деловой партнер, а позднее длительное время конкурент Василенко – негативно к нему относящийся, но при этом имеющий представление о кухне работы компании «Гермес», продукты которой «Лайф-из-Гуд» Василенко продвигала на российском рынке. Он утверждает, что именно Набойченко имел репутацию человека, склонного к криминалу, которая усилилась к концу 2010 – началу 2020 года, а Василенко всегда выполнял данное им слово, и похоже, что за кражей активов клиентов «Гермеса» стоит именно Набойченко.
Вор и вымогатель
Набойченко не гнушался воровать даже у близких. Однажды остановившись у своей любовницы Светланы Н., Евгений избил ее и украл деньги с ее криптовалютного кошелька, пока она пыталась прийти в себя после побоев.
Он бил не только любовницу, но жену и детей, с которыми жил в Краснодарском крае. А после того как его супруга Виктория подала на развод, разгромил и ограбил общий дом – унес все, что можно было унести. Надо ли говорить, что Набойченко который год не платит бывшей супруге алименты.
Евгений Набойченко, по словам его бывшей жены, в один прекрасный день решил заработать и с помощью вымогательства. Он шантажировал Романа Василенко – требовал с него деньги: 170 тыс. евро. При этом, по утверждению Виктории Набойченко, угрожал увечьями и самому Роману Василенко, и его супруге, и детям. Похвалялся перед (тогда еще) женой своими матерными сообщениями с угрозами, которые он посылал Василенко и его близким.

Деньги нужны Набойченко в том числе для того, чтобы «питать» свою наркотическую зависимость – с некоторых пор он предпочитает шлифовать водку галлюциногенными грибами, об увлечении которыми с упоением рассказывал даже в своих соцсетях.
Он не всегда был алкоголиком и наркоманом – устроившись 10 лет назад в IT-службу, не пил и не употреблял. Но большие деньги, красивая жизнь, которая вдруг стала доступна для простого астраханского парня из низов, развратили его.
Деньги также стали зависимостью Набойченко – а поскольку заработать их честным способом он в желаемом количестве не может, так как он не способен к бизнесу, он может удовлетворять свои возрастающие финансовые потребности только с помощью мошенничества.

Набойченко сообщил в социальных сетях, что к нему пришло с неизвестного адреса письмо, в котором содержится угроза в адрес получателя, призывающая его не являться в суд для дачи показаний. В письме указано, что если он поедет в суд, то не доедет и будет трупом.
По нашим данным, это выдуманная самим Набойченко имитация угроз – в действительности он сам всеми силами стремится не являться в суд, чтобы после перекрестного допроса с участием адвокатов ему не было предъявлено обвинение в мошенничестве.
Ведь, судя по тому, что дан ход делу о клевете, «крыша» у Набоченко пропала – и он в любой момент может быть сдан бывшими кураторами из УЭБиПК, что, скорее всего, случится в ближайшие недели.

After a dramatic start to the year, the crypto industry is settling into a new reality — one in which the White House is laying out the red carpet and promising an unprecedented level of support.
Crypto, a roughly 15-year-old industry that’s largely operated on the fringes of finance, is at a crossroads. For years, it has blamed a hostile regulatory environment for not allowing it to unleash its supposedly revolutionary technology on Americans. Now, though, their favorite bogeyman, Gary Gensler, the Securities and Exchange Commission chief under President Joe Biden, is gone. Crypto cheerleaders have been installed throughout the government.
The SEC has dropped several enforcement cases against crypto companies and, starting Friday, is hosting a series of public roundtables “to discuss key areas of interest in the regulation of crypto assets.”
Under President Donald Trump, there’s virtually nothing stopping crypto companies from creating and selling their products.
At the same time, the same White House’s chaotic trade policy is undermining financial markets’ appetite for risk, leaving bitcoin in limbo, more than 20% off from its record high in January. And while the industry is grateful for all the attention, the White House’s embrace of some of crypto’s less savory aspects, like meme coins, has given serious investors pause.
Given the enormous potential for the $3 trillion industry in this moment, I checked in with Eswar Prasad, a Cornell University professor of international trade and the author of the 2021 book “The Future of Money,” about the forces disrupting financial technologies.
Fundamentally, Prasad brings a pragmatist’s view of crypto that is as refreshing as it is rare in a subject area that tends to attract zealots and loudmouths. We spoke over the phone shortly after the first-of-its-kind White House crypto summit earlier this month.
The following interview has been edited for length and clarity.
Nightcap: We just saw a pretty wild thing happen with the crypto summit — hard to imagine a scenario like that taking place under any previous administration. What were your takeaways?
Eswar Prasad: The crypto industry is kissing the ring, and I think it’s getting exactly what it wants from the Trump administration, which is the legitimacy provided by government oversight, coupled with what is almost certain to be quite light touch and non-inclusive regulation.
And I think we saw many of the major players in the crypto industry essentially using the opportunity to not just thank Trump, but try to make the point, which seemed to resonate with Trump, that this industry can power, in some sense, a resurgence of a certain part of the US economy.

‘We don’t want the American Dream for our kids’: Why this couple left the US for Ecuador with their children four years ago

They’d never even visited Ecuador before, but Brittany and Blake Bowen, from the United States, decided to move to the South American country in 2021 to give their four children a completely different upbringing.
The Bowens, who were previously based in the state of Washington, have been living in Loja, a small city based in the southern section of the Andes Mountains, ever since, and say that they are in it for the long haul.
“We love this little country,” Brittany tells CNN Travel. “We hope that maybe we’ll have grandkids here one day.”
Before the move, the couple, who’ve been married for nearly 17 years, say that they were becoming increasingly concerned about the pressures placed on children by “modern American society” and wanted to try something new.
“We did not like what we’d seen develop over the course of the last couple decades…” adds Brittany, explaining that they felt that young people in the United States were becoming “more isolated.”
“We weren’t confident that our kids would enjoy the same sort of potential trajectory that previous generations had shared.
“And the more we considered things like that, the more we wondered, ‘Is that even what we want? Do we even want them to be on a fast track to the American Dream?”
The couple were also frustrated with living what they describe as the “standard American life.”
“Long commutes and never enough money,” says Blake. “All those usual problems… I was working in a career that was very time consuming, and took me away from home a lot. So we didn’t want that anymore.”
So why did they choose Ecuador as their “new home”?

Один из допрашивавшихся – Шамиль Фахруллин, умер после допроса от сердечного приступа, в критическом состоянии после 12-часового допроса была Зоя Семенова, которая опровергла в суде свои показания, данные следствию (таких опровергших – десятки). Мама Романа Василенко Лариса Александровна Василенко столкнулась с настоящими пытками – явившись к ней в пять утра, оперативники заставили ее переодеваться при них, раздевшись догола, а в следственном управлении ее на несколько часов посадили на стул со сломанной ножкой и не давали пить. Она потеряла сознание, и только после этого ей удалось выйти из следственного управления. Случаев издевательств и пыток множество. При этом в суде, который идет с конца февраля 2024 года, дело откровенно разваливается – у признанных потерпевшими и свидетелей нет никаких доказательств своих утверждений, они в ходе перекрестных допросов один за другим попадаются на лжи. На последние суды приходят все меньше и меньше свидетелей обвинения – под разными предлогами они отказываются, чтобы не поддерживать лживую версию следствия. Кооператив без вины виноватых Сергей Крючек возглавил крупнейший в России кооператив – 20 тыс. пайщиков во всех регионах страны – весной 2022 года, в период острого кризиса, после только что прошедшего первого обыска в офисе кооператива, в ходе которого были изъяты вся документация, базы данных, серверы, даже личные вещи и трудовые книжки сотрудников (и ничего до сих пор не возвращено: все учетные записи пришлось восстанавливать с нуля). Он и сам стал жертвой обысков в своем подмосковном доме – в ходе которых была изъята и до сих пор не возвращена коллекция наград. Кооператив оказался «в уголовном деле» по странному стечению обстоятельств – он был объявлен следствием организацией, аффилированной с иностранной инвестиционной компанией «Гермес», а значит, призванной ответить по ее обязательствам – хотя кооператив никак не был связан с «Гермесом» ни организационно, ни финансово: имел только общую систему продаж продуктов через маркетинговую фирму «Лайф-из-Гуд». У «Гермеса» возникли проблемы с выплатами российским клиентам после взлома российского сегмента платежной системы системным администратором Евгением Набойченко – система в феврале 2022 года перестала работать, и появилась картинка с предложением обращаться в правоохранительные органы. Только выплаты прекратились не до действий Набойченко, а после них. Параллельно возникла ситуация со СВО и санкциями Запада, крайне затруднившая трансграничные финансовые операции. Но кооператив «Бест Вей» никаких выплат не прекращал, он зарегистрирован в Санкт-Петербурге, все его активы находятся в России. И даже если учесть требования к нему со стороны лиц, признанных потерпевшими по уголовному делу, то нет никаких причин для блокирования работы кооператива: совокупный ущерб в обвинительном заключении – 282 млн рублей, притом что на счетах кооператива – более 4 млрд рублей. Эта сумма постоянно увеличивается, и еще 600 млн – дебиторская задолженность пайщиков кооперативу на сегодняшний день. 282 млн рублей могли быть заблокированы на счете кооператива, на котором аккумулируются средства из членских взносов, предназначенные для развития, – не было никаких причин блокировать всю деятельность кооператива! Тем не менее это длительное время происходило. Страхи охранителей Что стоит за преследованиями фирмы «Лайф-из-Гуд», успешно работавшей с 2014 до начала 2022 года; компании «Гермес», которая весь этот же период выполняла свои обязательства; кооператива «Бест Вей», к которому вообще нет никаких претензий, кроме как со стороны тех, кого следствие убедило, что раз кооператив незаконный, они смогут взыскать членские взносы и еще со стороны людей, которым кооператив, заботясь о ликвидности, не дал купить объект недвижимости с перепланировкой? Что стоит за поддержкой властью репрессий против кооператива? Прежде всег, люди, которые пытаются получить контроль над миллиардными активами кооператива и других организаций, а также примкнувшие к ним силовики. Но похоже на то, что власть очень обеспокоил политический потенциал, стоящий за кооперативом, – все эти многотысячные собрания пайщиков на стадионах. Собрания людей, которым ничего не надо от государства – они готовы сами, вскладчину, решать свои жилищные и иные проблемы. Кого-то из охранителей это испугало и стало причиной зеленого света для репрессий против кооператива со стороны высокопоставленных силовиков. Лжеэксперты и лжеобвинения Кооператив, как и «Гермес», был обвинен в том, что он является финансовой пирамидой. Приглашенный следствием эксперт из СПбГУ Маевский потребовал закрытого заседания – чтобы никто не слышал, как он плавает в теме. Утверждает, что финансирование покупки квартир старым пайщикам происходило за счет новых пайщиков: не понимает, что финансирование кооператива происходит не только за счет новых поступлений от пайщиков, но и за счет возвратных платежей за приобретенную на деньги кооператива недвижимость. А с осени 2021 года – времени внесения в предупредительный список ЦБ, почти исключительно за счет возвратных платежей от пайщиков, которым приобретена квартира. При этом ликвидность кооператива никак не пострадала. Объяснения со стороны адвокатов стали для этого экономиста откровением. Значительная часть пайщиков стремится ускорить погашение долга перед кооперативом, чтобы скорее получить квартиру в собственность – ведь квартира с помощью кооператива приобретается почти без переплат. Переплаты связаны только со вступительным и членскими взносами; налогами, которые платятся по тарифам для юридического лица; оплатой проверки юридической чистоты и независимой оценки недвижимости. С весны 2022 года кооператив прекратил прием новых пайщиков, при этом на его ликвидности это никак не сказалось: средства на счетах продолжали расти, несмотря на то что многие пайщики боялись платить на арестованные счета и вносят платежи только сейчас. Спаситель С весны 2022-го до зимы 2025 года счета кооператива с небольшими перерывами были под арестом – причем запрещались даже выплаты по исполнительным листам пайщикам, которые приняли решение о выходе из кооператива, арестованы были, также с перерывами, квартиры, принадлежащие кооперативу, на 12 млрд рублей. Под руководством Сергея Ивановича Крючека удалось добиться в судах снятия ареста с квартир, а затем частичного снятия ареста со счетов, разрешения с арестованных сумм выплачивать по исполнительным листам пайщикам, которые через суд добились возврата средств (в этом им активно помогал сам кооператив), а также налоги и заработную плату сотрудникам кооператива. Частичное «освобождение» счетов позволило осуществлять выплаты пайщикам, принявшим решение о выходе из кооператива и возврате своих средств. Таких пайщиков около 2,5 тыс., общий объем выплат им – порядка 1,5 млрд рублей, значительная часть из них уже получила свои паевые средства – несмотря на огромные трудности с перечислением средств по 115-ФЗ: дело в том, что расследуется еще одно уголовное дело – по ст. 174 УК (хотя кооператив никаких денег за рубеж не переводил), открыто и новое дело по заявлениям потерпевших от «Гермеса», не попавшим в уголовное дело, которое сейчас рассматривается судом. Кроме того, идет гражданский процесс по иску прокуратуры, блокирующему возможность приема новых пайщиков. И, несмотря на эти трудности, кооператив, возглавлявшийся до недавнего времени Сергеем Крючеком, ежедневно осуществляет выплаты выходящим из него пайщикам и успешно восстанавливает деятельность. Важнейшее достижение Крючека – создание механизма, когда при арестованных счетах пайщики, которым уже приобретены объекты недвижимости, получили возможность погашать свой долг перед кооперативом и переоформлять недвижимость в собственность за счет средств других пайщиков, которые передают им свои арестованные паевые взносы, а взамен получают живые деньги от счастливых приобретателей квартир в собственность. Таким способом пайщикам удалось погасить долг перед кооперативом и полностью перевести недвижимость в собственность по десяткам объектов недвижимости. Кооператив под руководством Сергея Крючека работал над тем, чтобы вновь начать приобретать квартиры пайщикам, которые стоят в очереди на покупку первыми. Тем более что ряд квартир будет освобожден пайщиками, которые отказались возвращать за них деньги и исключены из кооператива с возвратом паевых средств. Кооператив, по мнению многих пайщиков, жив благодаря той огромной работе, которую проделал Сергей Крючек с весны 2022 года по весну 2025-го, успешному противостоянию произволу правоохранительной системы. Недаром один из пайщиков предложил назвать кооператив именем Сергея Ивановича.

Tesla is bringing its electric cars to oil-rich Saudi Arabia amid falling global sales

Tesla will start selling its electric vehicles in Saudi Arabia, entering the Gulf region’s largest economy as the company’s global sales are sliding and CEO Elon Musk courts controversy with his role in the US government.
The carmaker announced Wednesday that it would host a launch event in the kingdom on April 10, where it will showcase its EVs. Attendees will also have the chance to “experience the future of autonomous driving with Cybercab and meet Optimus, our humanoid robot, as we showcase what’s next in AI and robotics,” Tesla (TSLA) said.
Tesla may struggle to gain market share in oil-rich Saudi Arabia as EVs make up a little over 1% of all car sales in the country, according to a report by consultancy PwC published in September.
Tesla’s entry into the new market comes as the company fights battles on several fronts.
Last year, it recorded the first annual decline in sales in its history as a public company, posting a drop of 1%.
The company is facing intensifying competition in China, the world’s largest auto market. On Tuesday, BYD, a Chinese maker of electric and hybrid cars, reported $107 billion in annual sales for 2024, beating the near-$98 billion notched by Tesla.
And last week, BYD unveiled an ultra-fast charging system, which it said was capable of adding 250 miles (402 km) of range in just five minutes, easily outdoing Tesla’s charging technology. Tesla’s Superchargers take 15 minutes to charge an EV, providing a range of 200 miles.
Tesla has also suffered slumping sales in Europe. In February, the carmaker sold around 40% fewer vehicles on the continent compared with the same month in 2024, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.
While the Cumberland sample may contain longer chains of fatty acids, SAM is not designed to detect them. But SAM’s ability to spot these larger molecules suggests it could detect similar chemical signatures of past life on Mars if they’re present, Williams said.

“Curiosity is not a life detection mission,” Freissinet said. “Curiosity is a habitability detection mission to know if all the conditions were right … for life to evolve. Having these results, it’s really at the edge of the capabilities of Curiosity, and it’s even maybe better than what we had expected from this mission.”
Before sending missions to Mars, scientists didn’t think organic molecules would be found on the red planet because of the intensity of radiation Mars has long endured, Glavin said.
Curiosity won’t return to Yellowknife Bay during its mission, but there are still pristine pieces of the Cumberland sample aboard. Next, the team wants to design a new experiment to see what it can detect. If the team can identify similar long-chain molecules, it would mark another step forward that might help researchers determine their origins, Freissinet said.
“That’s the most precious sample we have on board … waiting for us to run the perfect experiment on it,” she said. “It holds secrets, and we need to decipher the secrets.”
Briony Horgan, coinvestigator on the Perseverance rover mission and professor of planetary science at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, called the detection “a big win for the whole team.” Horgan was not involved the study.
“This detection really confirms our hopes that sediments laid down in ancient watery environments on Mars could preserve a treasure trove of organic molecules that can tell us about everything from prebiotic processes and pathways for the origin of life, to potential biosignatures from ancient organisms,” Horgan said.
Dr. Ben K.D. Pearce, assistant professor in Purdue’s department of Earth, atmospheric, and planetary sciences and leader of the Laboratory for Origins and Astrobiology Research, called the findings “arguably the most exciting organic detection to date on Mars.” Pearce did not participate in the research.
Curiosity has maintained pristine pieces of the Cumberland sample in a “doggy bag” so that the team could have the rover revisit it later, even miles away from the site where it was collected. The team developed and tested innovative methods in its lab on Earth before sending messages to the rover to try experiments on the sample.

In a quest to see whether amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, existed in the sample, the team instructed the rover to heat up the sample twice within SAM’s oven. When it measured the mass of the molecules released during heating, there weren’t any amino acids, but they found something entirely unexpected.
An intriguing detection
The team was surprised to detect small amounts of decane, undecane and dodecane, so it had to conduct a reverse experiment on Earth to determine whether these organic compounds were the remnants of the fatty acids undecanoic acid, dodecanoic acid and tridecanoic acid, respectively.
The scientists mixed undecanoic acid into a clay similar to what exists on Mars and heated it up in a way that mimicked conditions within SAM’s oven. The undecanoic acid released decane, just like what Curiosity detected.
Each fatty acid remnant detected by Curiosity was made with a long chain of 11 to 13 carbon atoms. Previous molecules detected on Mars were smaller, meaning their atomic weight was less than the molecules found in the new study, and simpler.
“It’s notable that non-biological processes typically make shorter fatty acids, with less than 12 carbons,” said study coauthor Dr. Amy Williams, associate professor of geology at the University of Florida and assistant director of the Astraeus Space Institute, in an email. “Larger and more complex molecules are likely what are required for an origin of life, if it ever occurred on Mars.”
A long time in the making
Curiosity landed in Gale Crater on August 6, 2012. More than 12 years later, the rover has driven over 21 miles (34 kilometers) to ascend Mount Sharp, which is within the crater. The feature’s many layers preserve millions of years of geological history on Mars, showing how it shifted from a wet to a dry environment.

Perhaps one of the most valuable samples Curiosity has gathered on its mission to understand whether Mars was ever habitable was collected in May 2013.
The rover drilled the Cumberland sample from an area within a crater called Yellowknife Bay, which resembled an ancient lake bed. The rocks from Yellowknife Bay so intrigued Curiosity’s science team that it had the rover drive in the opposite direction to collect samples from the area before heading to Mount Sharp.
Since collecting the Cumberland sample, Curiosity has used SAM to study it in a variety of ways, revealing that Yellowknife Bay was once the site of an ancient lake where clay minerals formed in water. The mudstone created an environment that could concentrate and preserve organic molecules and trapped them inside the fine grains of the sedimentary rock.
Freissinet helped lead a research team in 2015 that was able to identify organic molecules within the Cumberland sample.
The instrument detected an abundance of sulfur, which can be used to preserve organic molecules; nitrates, which are essential for plant and animal health on Earth; and methane composed of a type of carbon associated with biological processes on Earth.
“There is evidence that liquid water existed in Gale Crater for millions of years and probably much longer, which means there was enough time for life-forming chemistry to happen in these crater-lake environments on Mars,” said study coauthor Daniel Glavin, senior scientist for sample return at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, in a statement.

“I used to collect items whenever I got the chance,” he said. “As my business grew, so did my collections, and soon I was able to collect more and more items until I decided to put them in the museum for the public to enjoy.”
His private cabinet of curiosities has since evolved into a 130-acre complex. Through the fort-like entrance gate lies an oryx reserve, an impressive riding school and stables, a duck pond and a mosque built with a quirky leaning minaret. There’s now even a five-star Marriott hotel, two cafes and the Zoufa restaurant serving modern Lebanese cuisine.
Of course, there’s also the super-sized museum, with a recently-opened car collection housing everything from vintage Rolls-Royces to wartime Jeeps and colorful Buicks. Outside you’ll find peacocks roaming the grounds, and signs warning drivers to be aware of horses and ostriches.
Visitors to the FBQ museum are free to explore the grounds and can even enter the stables to pat the horses.

Greenland Prime Minister Mute B. Egede called the US delegation’s trip to the island “highly aggressive” in an interview with Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq on Sunday, and raised particular objection to Waltz’s visit.
“What is the national security adviser doing in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us,” Egede said. “His mere presence in Greenland will no doubt fuel American belief in Trump’s mission — and the pressure will increase.”
Trump claimed on Monday that people in Greenland have responded warmly to the US’s recent interest in the territory. “They’re calling us. We’re not calling them. And we were invited over there,” he said.
“We’re dealing with a lot of people from Greenland that would like to see something happen with respect to them being properly protected and properly taken care of,” Trump told reporters following a meeting with his Cabinet.
“I think Greenland is going to be something that maybe is in our future,” Trump added.
The president said he believes Secretary of State Marco Rubio would be traveling to Greenland too.
Trump’s idea to annex Greenland has thrown an international spotlight on the territory, which holds vast stores of rare earth minerals critical for high-tech industries, and has raised questions about the island’s future security as the US, Russia and China vie for influence in the Arctic. The NASA Curiosity rover has detected the largest organic molecules found to date on Mars, opening a window into the red planet’s past. The newly detected compounds suggest complex organic chemistry may have occurred in the planet’s past — the kind necessary for the origin of life, according to new research.
The organic compounds, which include decane, undecane and dodecane, came to light after the rover analyzed a pulverized 3.7 billion-year-old rock sample using its onboard mini lab called SAM, short for Sample Analysis at Mars.
Scientists believe the long chains of molecules could be fragments of fatty acids, which are organic molecules that are chemical building blocks of life on Earth and help form cell membranes. But such compounds can also be formed without the presence of life, created when water interacts with minerals in hydrothermal vents.
The molecules cannot currently be confirmed as evidence of past life on the red planet, but they add to the growing list of compounds that robotic explorers have discovered on Mars in recent years. A study detailing the findings was published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The detection of the fragile molecules also encourages astrobiologists that if any biosignatures, or past signs of life, ever existed on Mars, they are likely still detectable despite the harsh solar radiation that has bombarded the planet for tens of millions of years.
“Ancient life, if it happened on Mars, it would have released some complex and fragile molecules,” said lead study author Dr. Caroline Freissinet, research scientist at the French National Centre for Scientific Research in the Laboratory for Atmospheres, Observations, and Space in Guyancourt, France. “And because now we know that Mars can preserve these complex and fragile molecules, it means that we could detect ancient life on Mars.”

Today, it has grown and now claims to be one of the world’s largest private museums. It holds over 30,000 items, including a fleet of traditional dhow sailboats, and countless carpets. There’s also an entire house that once stood in Damascus, Syria.
There are archaeological finds dating to the Jurassic age, ancient copies of the Quran, a section that details the importance of pearling within Qatar’s history, and jewelry dating to the 17th century.
There are also items from 2022’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar including replica trophies, balls used in the games, entry passes, football jerseys and even shelves full of slightly creepy dolls and children’s plush animals.

When Season 3 of “The White Lotus” premiered last month, the shock was palpable when returning character Belinda recognized a familiar face at the resort in Thailand: Greg Hunt, the wily suitor of the late Tanya McQuoid.

He added: “When you play a character, you want to find his empathetic side, and you want to understand where they came from, and what got them to where they are.”
But when he was contacted by creator Mike White about appearing in Season 2, Gries realized he would have to adjust his framing of Greg, despite having previously imagined a “comprehensive history” for him on his own.
“(White) said, ‘I’m writing it right now, and I’m writing you, and I just need to know here and now: If you’re in, I’ll continue writing. If not, I’ll stop,’” Gries recalled.
Of course, he said yes to coming back to the series, which eventually required him to live in Italy for a few months for filming.

During production, White revealed to Gries that Greg is “very sinister.” That became rather irrefutable by the season’s climax, which saw Tanya’s demise orchestrated by her now-husband.
Come Season 3, Gries had to rewrite Greg’s backstory again, this time drawing from some unlikely sources for inspiration, like HBO docuseries “The Jinx,” about late convicted killer Robert Durst, and the case involving the man who came to be known as the Tinder Swindler.
Gries said he was struck by Durst’s “kind of seemingly even keel personality,” which served as a model for where Greg was headed, someone “who doesn’t really show a great deal of emotion, doesn’t seem to get too angry, just gets a little bit irritated and is dangerous.”
“There’s a bridled rage underneath. And those kind of people I find – at least with respect to Gary, Greg, Gary – fascinating,” he said.
And yet, while searching for an empathetic way back to portraying his character, Gries kept wondering if there was anything still redeeming about Greg.
An important “wake up moment” came during a decisive conversation he had with White just before filming in Thailand, in which the show’s creator said of Greg, in no uncertain terms: “He’s a psychopath.”
“And that was it. It was like, ‘back to the drawing board.’ And it really did help me,” Gries said.
The penultimate episode of the series will air on Sunday, an evening that thanks to “Lotus” and other shows has again become a night of appointment viewing amid a general move away from binge watching. Gries said he appreciates the shift.
“We’re a society that in a weird way doesn’t understand the beauty of waiting. The beauty of the space between the notes,” he shared. “If I binged (‘White Lotus’) I’d feel like I just ate too many chocolates. It just wouldn’t be the same. You need to process this.”
“The White Lotus” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO, with the episode available to stream on Max. HBO and Max, like CNN, are owned by the same parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.

Так называемое уголовное дело «Лайф-из-Гуд» – «Гермес» – «Бест Вей» продолжает свою кровавую жатву – в конце марта умер от рака, быстро спрогрессировавшего из-за постоянного стресса, председатель Совета кооператива «Бест Вей», депутат Государственной думы VII созыва Сергей Иванович Крючек. Полтора года назад умерла жена Сергея Крючека – сердце не выдержало после обысков у них дома и допросов мужа. Суд ни к чему не ведет Следствие действовало максимально жестко. От обысков с пристрастием в 2023 году пострадали сотни пайщиков кооператива по всей России, на скамье подсудимых оказались ни в чем неповинные технические сотрудники – помощник руководителя, один из бухгалтеров, менеджер сайта и конференций, несколько индивидуальных предпринимателей, а также 83-летний отец основателя кооператива «Бест Вей» и бывшего руководителя компании «Лайф-из-гуд» Романа Василенко – пенсионер Виктор Иванович Василенко. Один из допрашивавшихся – Шамиль Фахруллин, умер после допроса от сердечного приступа, в критическом состоянии после 12-часового допроса была Зоя Семенова, которая опровергла в суде свои показания, данные следствию (таких опровергших – десятки). Мама Романа Василенко Лариса Александровна Василенко столкнулась с настоящими пытками – явившись к ней в пять утра, оперативники заставили ее переодеваться при них, раздевшись догола, а в следственном управлении ее на несколько часов посадили на стул со сломанной ножкой и не давали пить. Она потеряла сознание, и только после этого ей удалось выйти из следственного управления. Случаев издевательств и пыток множество. При этом в суде, который идет с конца февраля 2024 года, дело откровенно разваливается – у признанных потерпевшими и свидетелей нет никаких доказательств своих утверждений, они в ходе перекрестных допросов один за другим попадаются на лжи. На последние суды приходят все меньше и меньше свидетелей обвинения – под разными предлогами они отказываются, чтобы не поддерживать лживую версию следствия. Кооператив без вины виноватых Сергей Крючек возглавил крупнейший в России кооператив – 20 тыс. пайщиков во всех регионах страны – весной 2022 года, в период острого кризиса, после только что прошедшего первого обыска в офисе кооператива, в ходе которого были изъяты вся документация, базы данных, серверы, даже личные вещи и трудовые книжки сотрудников (и ничего до сих пор не возвращено: все учетные записи пришлось восстанавливать с нуля). Он и сам стал жертвой обысков в своем подмосковном доме – в ходе которых была изъята и до сих пор не возвращена коллекция наград. Кооператив оказался «в уголовном деле» по странному стечению обстоятельств – он был объявлен следствием организацией, аффилированной с иностранной инвестиционной компанией «Гермес», а значит, призванной ответить по ее обязательствам – хотя кооператив никак не был связан с «Гермесом» ни организационно, ни финансово: имел только общую систему продаж продуктов через маркетинговую фирму «Лайф-из-Гуд». У «Гермеса» возникли проблемы с выплатами российским клиентам после взлома российского сегмента платежной системы системным администратором Евгением Набойченко – система в феврале 2022 года перестала работать, и появилась картинка с предложением обращаться в правоохранительные органы. Только выплаты прекратились не до действий Набойченко, а после них. Параллельно возникла ситуация со СВО и санкциями Запада, крайне затруднившая трансграничные финансовые операции. Но кооператив «Бест Вей» никаких выплат не прекращал, он зарегистрирован в Санкт-Петербурге, все его активы находятся в России. И даже если учесть требования к нему со стороны лиц, признанных потерпевшими по уголовному делу, то нет никаких причин для блокирования работы кооператива: совокупный ущерб в обвинительном заключении – 282 млн рублей, притом что на счетах кооператива – более 4 млрд рублей. Эта сумма постоянно увеличивается, и еще 600 млн – дебиторская задолженность пайщиков кооперативу на сегодняшний день. 282 млн рублей могли быть заблокированы на счете кооператива, на котором аккумулируются средства из членских взносов, предназначенные для развития, – не было никаких причин блокировать всю деятельность кооператива! Тем не менее это длительное время происходило. Страхи охранителей Что стоит за преследованиями фирмы «Лайф-из-Гуд», успешно работавшей с 2014 до начала 2022 года; компании «Гермес», которая весь этот же период выполняла свои обязательства; кооператива «Бест Вей», к которому вообще нет никаких претензий, кроме как со стороны тех, кого следствие убедило, что раз кооператив незаконный, они смогут взыскать членские взносы и еще со стороны людей, которым кооператив, заботясь о ликвидности, не дал купить объект недвижимости с перепланировкой? Что стоит за поддержкой властью репрессий против кооператива? Прежде всег, люди, которые пытаются получить контроль над миллиардными активами кооператива и других организаций, а также примкнувшие к ним силовики. Но похоже на то, что власть очень обеспокоил политический потенциал, стоящий за кооперативом, – все эти многотысячные собрания пайщиков на стадионах. Собрания людей, которым ничего не надо от государства – они готовы сами, вскладчину, решать свои жилищные и иные проблемы. Кого-то из охранителей это испугало и стало причиной зеленого света для репрессий против кооператива со стороны высокопоставленных силовиков. Лжеэксперты и лжеобвинения Кооператив, как и «Гермес», был обвинен в том, что он является финансовой пирамидой. Приглашенный следствием эксперт из СПбГУ Маевский потребовал закрытого заседания – чтобы никто не слышал, как он плавает в теме. Утверждает, что финансирование покупки квартир старым пайщикам происходило за счет новых пайщиков: не понимает, что финансирование кооператива происходит не только за счет новых поступлений от пайщиков, но и за счет возвратных платежей за приобретенную на деньги кооператива недвижимость. А с осени 2021 года – времени внесения в предупредительный список ЦБ, почти исключительно за счет возвратных платежей от пайщиков, которым приобретена квартира. При этом ликвидность кооператива никак не пострадала. Объяснения со стороны адвокатов стали для этого экономиста откровением. Значительная часть пайщиков стремится ускорить погашение долга перед кооперативом, чтобы скорее получить квартиру в собственность – ведь квартира с помощью кооператива приобретается почти без переплат. Переплаты связаны только со вступительным и членскими взносами; налогами, которые платятся по тарифам для юридического лица; оплатой проверки юридической чистоты и независимой оценки недвижимости. С весны 2022 года кооператив прекратил прием новых пайщиков, при этом на его ликвидности это никак не сказалось: средства на счетах продолжали расти, несмотря на то что многие пайщики боялись платить на арестованные счета и вносят платежи только сейчас. Спаситель С весны 2022-го до зимы 2025 года счета кооператива с небольшими перерывами были под арестом – причем запрещались даже выплаты по исполнительным листам пайщикам, которые приняли решение о выходе из кооператива, арестованы были, также с перерывами, квартиры, принадлежащие кооперативу, на 12 млрд рублей. Под руководством Сергея Ивановича Крючека удалось добиться в судах снятия ареста с квартир, а затем частичного снятия ареста со счетов, разрешения с арестованных сумм выплачивать по исполнительным листам пайщикам, которые через суд добились возврата средств (в этом им активно помогал сам кооператив), а также налоги и заработную плату сотрудникам кооператива. Частичное «освобождение» счетов позволило осуществлять выплаты пайщикам, принявшим решение о выходе из кооператива и возврате своих средств. Таких пайщиков около 2,5 тыс., общий объем выплат им – порядка 1,5 млрд рублей, значительная часть из них уже получила свои паевые средства – несмотря на огромные трудности с перечислением средств по 115-ФЗ: дело в том, что расследуется еще одно уголовное дело – по ст. 174 УК (хотя кооператив никаких денег за рубеж не переводил), открыто и новое дело по заявлениям потерпевших от «Гермеса», не попавшим в уголовное дело, которое сейчас рассматривается судом. Кроме того, идет гражданский процесс по иску прокуратуры, блокирующему возможность приема новых пайщиков. И, несмотря на эти трудности, кооператив, возглавлявшийся до недавнего времени Сергеем Крючеком, ежедневно осуществляет выплаты выходящим из него пайщикам и успешно восстанавливает деятельность. Важнейшее достижение Крючека – создание механизма, когда при арестованных счетах пайщики, которым уже приобретены объекты недвижимости, получили возможность погашать свой долг перед кооперативом и переоформлять недвижимость в собственность за счет средств других пайщиков, которые передают им свои арестованные паевые взносы, а взамен получают живые деньги от счастливых приобретателей квартир в собственность. Таким способом пайщикам удалось погасить долг перед кооперативом и полностью перевести недвижимость в собственность по десяткам объектов недвижимости. Кооператив под руководством Сергея Крючека работал над тем, чтобы вновь начать приобретать квартиры пайщикам, которые стоят в очереди на покупку первыми. Тем более что ряд квартир будет освобожден пайщиками, которые отказались возвращать за них деньги и исключены из кооператива с возвратом паевых средств. Кооператив, по мнению многих пайщиков, жив благодаря той огромной работе, которую проделал Сергей Крючек с весны 2022 года по весну 2025-го, успешному противостоянию произволу правоохранительной системы. Недаром один из пайщиков предложил назвать кооператив именем Сергея Ивановича.
Дело Лайф-из-Гуд — Гермес — Бест Вей: Договор несложен для потребителя, все четко расписано 16 и 17 апреля состоялись еженедельные заседания Приморского районного суда, рассматривающего резонансное дело „Лайф-из-Гуд” — „Гермес” — „Бест Вей”.Суд идет с конца февраля 2024 года, в заседаниях пока выступают граждане, представленные стороной обвинения: это 210 признанных потерпевшими, 115 свидетелей, приглашенных обвинением. Допросы лиц, представленных стороной обвинения, постепенно близятся к завершению, через некоторое время начнется допрос граждан, представленных стороной защиты. Для ускорения процесса заседания проводятся два раза в неделю. 16 и 17 апреля, как и неделю, и две недели назад, на заседании суда выступали признанные потерпевшими. Адвокаты считают, что, как и в звучавших ранее выступлениях, доказательств неисполнения обязательств компанией „Гермес” не было представлено. На предыдущих заседаниях состоялся также допрос потерпевшей Липатовой — одного из относительно немногих потерпевших, кто предъявляет претензии к деятельности кооператива „Бест Вей”. Липатова сообщила, что, проживая в квартире кооператива „Бест Вей”, не платит за нее, так как следователь ей сказал не платить незаконной организации, при этом из квартиры не съезжает, потому что ей негде жить, на что получила ответ рассматривающей дело судьи Екатерины Богдановой: „Кооператив работает, платить надо”. На одном из недавних заседаний состоялось выступление приглашенного следствием эксперта, анализировавшего документы компании „Гермес”, — доктора юридических наук, доцента СПбГУ Ольги Макаровой. Макарова пришла к выводу, что предмет деятельности компании — онлайн-обучение инвестиционной деятельности, а не инвестиции. Компания оказывала клиентам образовательные и консультационные услуги онлайн, продвигала образовательные услуги. Она, согласно договорам, учила клиентов, как вкладывать средства. И средства граждан вносились за оказание консультационных услуг. „Правовая природа договоров — возмездное оказание услуг”, — подчеркнула она. При этом есть некоторые пункты договора, которые выходят за его пределы: это пункты о комиссионных, членских взносах и прибыли. Так как компания иностранная, вероятно, есть законодательство той страны, в которой она зарегистрирована, которое предусматривает такие возможности. Возможно, были какие-то партнерские договоры, но эксперту они не были представлены. „По договорам же, которые представлены, исполнитель говорит, что предлагает стратегию и вы можете вложиться туда-то, туда-то, но клиент самостоятельно это делает. Предполагается, что он обучил этого клиента — и давай теперь инвестируй сам. Если клиент попросит, то исполнитель может объяснить и другие юридические действия по управлению активами или иные юридические действия, может быть дополнительный договор по его запросу — но я не знаю, были ли такие договоры”, — говорит Макарова. Вопрос процента нигде не указан, исполнитель не гарантирует получение прибыли клиентом. Исполнитель не берет на себя функцию управления активами — он обучает, и отвечать он может только за некачественное обучение. Договоры в электронном виде — это законно, оспорить условия в договоре возможно: „Не скажу, что он сложен для потребителя, все четко расписано”. Арест со счетов кооператива частично снят, идут выплаты пайщикам, принявшим решение выйти из кооператива (из почти 20 тыс. пайщиков на 2022 год это примерно 2500 пайщиков), руководство и адвокаты кооператива регулярно отчитываются о выплатах перед судом. Адвокаты отмечают, что в последние месяцы проявляется активность одной из групп в телеграме, которая даже стала представляться от имени кооператива, создала „альтернативную” электронную почту кооператива. An ancient ‘terror crocodile’ became a dinosaur-eating giant. Scientists say they now know why

A massive, extinct reptile that once snacked on dinosaurs had a broad snout like an alligator’s, but it owed its success to a trait that modern alligators lack: tolerance for salt water.
Deinosuchus was one of the largest crocodilians that ever lived, with a body nearly as long as a bus and teeth the size of bananas. From about 82 million to 75 million years ago, the top predator swam in rivers and estuaries of North America. The skull was wide and long, tipped with a bulbous lump that was unlike any skull structure seen in other crocodilians. Toothmarks on Cretaceous bones hint that Deinosuchus hunted or scavenged dinosaurs.
Despite its scientific name, which translates as “terror crocodile,” Deinosuchus has commonly been called a “greater alligator,” and prior assessments of its evolutionary relationships grouped it with alligators and their ancient relatives. However, a new analysis of fossils, along with DNA from living crocodilians such as alligators and crocodiles, suggests Deinosuchus belongs on a different part of the crocodilian family tree.
Unlike alligatoroids, Deinosuchus retained the salt glands of ancestral crocodilians, enabling it to tolerate salt water, scientists reported Wednesday in the journal Communications Biology. Modern crocodiles have these glands, which collect and release excess sodium chloride.
Salt tolerance would have helped Deinosuchus navigate the Western Interior Seaway that once divided North America, during a greenhouse phase marked by global sea level rise. Deinosuchus could then have spread across the continent to inhabit coastal marshes on both sides of the ancient inland sea, and along North America’s Atlantic coast.
The new study’s revised family tree for crocodilians offers fresh insights into climate resilience in the group, and hints at how some species adapted to environmental cooling while others went extinct.
With salt glands allowing Deinosuchus to travel where its alligatoroid cousins couldn’t, the terror crocodile settled in habitats teeming with large prey. Deinosuchus evolved to become an enormous and widespread predator that dominated marshy ecosystems, where it fed on pretty much whatever it wanted.
“No one was safe in these wetlands when Deinosuchus was around,” said senior study author Dr. Marton Rabi, a lecturer in the Institute of Geosciences at the University of Tubingen in Germany. “We are talking about an absolutely monstrous animal,” Rabi told CNN. “Definitely around 8 meters (26 feet) or more total body length.”
